A four hour wait...

...was something I have never taken part in. I couldn't imagine ever being told up front that something would take this long and positively responding "Yeah, that sounds like a great idea - count me in!" But, of course, taking the road least travelled I got caught partaking in the long route. Here's where the trouble started...
Now, I could take my sleeping bag and camp out at borders ANY DAY. We LOVE the bookstore and typically spend hours there whenever we can. So, when I got out of school for the last day (early dismissal @ 11am!) and Chato says, "Wanna go downtown to Borders?" I thought, "How nice!" He then proceed to tell me that DeLaHoya was going to be there (as in Oscar, the Golden Boy, olympic and pro boxer), but I shrugged my sholders and said "Okay". I let Aly and Chato off at the corner while Brandan and I sought after a good parking spot (yeah right - Pay to Park was on the corner and easier than finding a meter.) Once we got in and found them they were already waiting to take an escalator to the third floor. We just knew that he would be there GREETING us once we got up there...humph. There were aisles and aisles more to feed through; up and down, back and forth. I now know more about audio books, CDs, and biographies than I ever need to know. So four hours later....
...and can I tell you how friendly the patrons in line were? and how well behaved my children were? and how much my legs hurt at the end of this entire ordeal? It is all unbelievebly true. So finally, with one more step away the kids anxiously waited their turn.
So, was it worth it? Well, I'll tell you. Oscar is VERY personable. Very friendly and warm, especially with the kids that came to greet him. ( I had plenty of time to watch!) And I think that, for the most part, the reason we had to wait so long for our 15 seconds was because he never pushed anyone along, but instead, he enjoyed meeting everyone and having conversations with them.
Look at his expression. Brandan had just finished asking him if he would like to play a round of golf with him. Oscar pushed back and said, "Really? - You golf, buddy?" He proceeded to ask him what he liked most: putting? chipping? and Brandan responded "driving!" okay, I'm not well enough educated in golf vocabulary to care, but what is chipping?
So, In the end and after our fifteen seconds, I snapped the picture we had waited so long for...and why did Chato look at someone else? ARGH!!!!!!!!

LOL, love your last comment-those silly boys!!!!! It stinks that it took 4 hours, but how exciting! I can't wait to show Shaun-he will be excited! In his interviews he always seems so nice, so I'm glad to hear he is like that irl!

Wow, I don't envy you the wait... but at least it was nice once you got to the front of the line!

Great photo of everyone - a shame you couldn't be in it, too!

(btw, chipping is used when you're a few yards from the green. You only swing the club back a little, as though you're putting instead of driving. [My dad was a bigtime golfer and I used to caddy for him a lot])
