Autumn weather? Yeah, right...

October has always been my most favorite month of the year; not for reasons of birthdays, nor anniversaries...but fall's beauty is absolutely my favorite as the trees begin to blush and sweater weather makes things just right for hot apple cider. Hmph. We headed out to get our hands wrapped around some of that cider today. Hmph. At 80 degrees and short-sleeve wearing, there was no fondness for cider, let alone apple picking or pumpkin searching. Our 2nd annual trip to Apple Hollar turned out to be unusually warm and overcrowded with TOO many people trying to do the same. Ah, but the sun was on our side. It brightened everything up and gave glisten to Aly's infamous auburn hair...

Now, keep in mind as you scroll through: Aly can not keep her glasses pushed up on her nose to save herself! She is my little old granny, who peers over the tops to see what trouble she can get herself into. Now like Father, like Daughter...many apples we taste tested before their siblings could find their way into our bushel.

Leave it to Brandan to figure that the apples at the tops of the trees were the sweetest...to pick.
Shiny and bright, we packed up Rome Beauty and Jonathon with a couple of Paula Reds. So many of the other varieties were not in their usual abundance this year; making us kind of sad.
We hit the "attractions" after the hardwork end of the deal. Cool roadsters, pumpkin bowling, and corn mazes were on Brandan and Aly's to do list.

I thought that is was so cool that there was a sandbox full of dried corn, where the kids were able to jump, play, and bury one another. We turned ourselves around in circles trying to find our way out of the maze, no lie.

It was a picture perfect day, no matter how sweated we hadn't envisioned ourselves getting, but now we are off to peel our apples and store them away like chipmunks for the winter.

Off into the sunset...

That stinks that the weather wouldn't cooperate! That's blueberry picking weather, not pumpkin and apple weather! Crazy Chicago...ya never know what you're gonna get!

Such great family photos - love the perspective on the corn maze one. Sorry the weather wasn't more seasonal, though. Those warm temps sound more like you were down here in FL than in Chicago!
