Aloha aversion

Pay no attention to that drastic drama queen title. This is paradise and the smiles that follow will demonstrate that point. It makes no difference that our flight was delayed for an hour and a half as the airport cleared the inch thick ice that glazed our city Friday morning. It doesn't have anything to with the eleven hours that we spent within the confines of the planes cabin. The lack of a full, healthy meal in our tummies for that length of times was not a determinant either. Upon arrival, we were able to stretch our legs, enjoy a nice ride to the village and grab a bite to eat. At approximately 6:30pm we experienced some flickering. There were some moments of flashes, but we could have never imagined that the lights would go out!

Oahu, for those of you who heard...had a blackout. This was not compounded within our resort, nor the confines of Wikiki itself, but took out the entire island. As we climbed the stairs to our 11th floor suite we figured it was a sign of early hibernation to a long day.

Waking this morning, we discovered that not much had changed. No power. We were able to grab a pricy bite of cereal and yogurt before heading off to catch our tour to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Hmmm...that would mean they would need to have electricity on their end of the island for that to happen. Yep, cancelled too.

I was redder than active volcano lava, but the kids convinced me that a day at water's edge would cure my temper. We paused for some pretty pictures, my little posers know me so well...

And as we arrived back to our room to find the swim gear, I believe I was sent a message from above to change my demeanor...

Brandan applied some kona darkening lotion, but didn't quite get the "rub-it-in" technique. Aly and I labeled him HOT CHOCOLATE for the day...
Aly went straight for the sand...

Chato and Brandan found some fish...The water was a bit harsh for a boy just out of the snow...

But this little waterbug didn't seem to mind...
Aly and I strolled off for some lunch...

..and these side by side buddies took in some rays.

The day ended with a beautiful Japanese feast (plenty of sushi for the boys) and the best tropical ice cream come ever (mine was coconut-raspberry-passion fruit) YUM! We walked the beach during sunset. We took in the evening breezes with a deep sigh of relief.
So, maybe, just maybe I will go back and change the title.
I'll hold my breath and see what adventures tomorrow brings.
