Attempting to work on my photography skills is a real challenge. This assignment, using composition, keeping my photo subject UNCENTERED, was more difficult than I thought. Here is an example of my attempt:
Now I know that my subject is my child, but the flowers are kind of overwhelming and attract so much attention that I'm not sure that this was the effect I really wanted.
Okay, these are my handsome men wearing pink and smiling about it. Take a look at this pic - I'm going for the triangular effect, but again, I am thinking that those pretty little roses are distracting my eye.
So, to all of my photo critique girls - give me some advice!!

okay so im "leaving a comment"
top photo: the flowers are over whelming... almost want to see you step a little closer what really bothers me is the building in the backgound and what the hotel you all were staying at? need to get some of that depth of feild woriking in your favor (the blur factor that happens in photos. also isolating DS and the flowers would have been a better photo/crop but i said no cropping.
middle picture... i actually like this one better than the first, but i think its the color of the flowers that's draws me in. DD gets a little lost, may be have her take her light sweeter off so she has some more contrast ot the flowers and backdrop. again take a step closer and use the depth of field or actually use the brick to your advantage and take a step to the left zoom in block out the post and isolate dd with next the the flowers with solid brick as your background more of a "head shot" than a full body shot. but would still get the ideal of the photo across and be more pleasing to the eye.
last photo I LIKE ALOT, although shel was right over the tilted camera thing. its still a great shot. there are 3 seperate planes in this photo... dh & ds, the flowers (which could easily be taken out of the shot and nothing would be lost) and then the backdrop of the hotel room.. which adds a cool angle, in PS i would blur that just a little to get the angles but loose the detail of it all. i like how the two of them take up most of the picture area vs the other photos where they seem less important next to the flowers. this photo would work with out the tilt if you keep the same crop on DH and let DS take up the rest of the frame, and keep everything else the same.
great job and keep up the work, not bad for a first try. now were you going for the triangle in the first two (still needs help). and the asemetrical on the last (awsome job) right?
Okie Dokie! I think the first one-the flowers are overwhelming. I agree with Jakki about the blur-your camera should have a portrait mode that will help with that a little. Or maybe having taken it horizontal where the top of the picture was closer to the top of Brandan's head.
I like the second picture too...maybe if you could have had her crouch down so that you would have missed most of the building in the back, I like the sweater off idea too, but I think having her crouched down and a closer zoom would have been nice.
I like the third one a lot-the angle is cool, but I if the frame was moved down and over to the left to get more of Chato's head in, that could have been nice. Having the flowers/background blurred would be nice too.
Now you are making me want to go play with my camera!!!!!!! I think that will be my mission in Chicago!
Candi I have no new comments!! LOL!! I agree that the building is distracting in the background. I actually like the flowers but if you were taking the pic from a different angle then the focus can still be on the pic. I like the tilted pic too but it almost looks like the flowers are growing out of ds head!! LOL!!!
Great pics! Great assignment!!!!
