Carving Jack...and his sister Jill

Allright, so we cheated this year. We didn't hit the pumpkin patch; it was way easier to pick out the 25 cents a lb. ones over at the market. And what a deal?! Each pumpkin we carried home wrighed in at just over 12lbs. That was a steal @ $3 for each orange round globe!!

We took our "mess" outdoors, and splattered the guts and seeds below. Brandan and Aly, for the first time, were in complete control of goop, design, and showmanship. I stepped back -- way back -- to snap in the delight of non-stringy guts and slimey ooze heaven as they dug in!

Our adventure didn't begin until just after 5pm, but in this neck of the woods, our evenings come calling before we are ready to see the sun melt away. The setting glow did provide us with some glorious light for a while.
Brandan sawed through Jack, while Aly poked away at Jill, refusing help - the little work-a-holic! In the end, we collected the seeds (in preparation of a delicious treat: a cinnasweet roasted recipe) and proudly displayed our new friends on the front porch.

Jack did try to attack Brandan, but we were able to convince him to protect our house from unwanted guests. Hopefully, all Jack fearing people will leave them alone, to sit in peace during this weeks celebrations, and not torture them by seeing if they can fly (thus splatter) onto the sidewalk below!

Ahh, the week's events are beginning to unfold...

Just one of the many reasons I adore Autumn...

Great job, Brandan & Aly! You really worked hard on these! And wasn't mom smart to stand back (out of the mess) and let you have at Jack & Jill. Wonderful shots, Candi... love that last one of B&A with their finished works of art!
