Easter Events Eggs-travaganza

Somewhere between Good Friday and Easter Sunday we wrapped ourselves in Spring glory. While the eggs were boiling, we put on our aprons and rolled out the sugar cookie dough. Little cutters in the shapes of butterflies, bunny rabbits, tulips and easter eggs were punched out and placed in the oven.

As soon as the eggs were cool enough and the cookies were in the oven, we tried out some new-fangled painting tools. Dudley offered up some rollers and stamps with shiny new pastel dyes. (The stamps did not work well at all, but we were very content with the rollers and brushes.) I totally recommend this for the older kid crowd - sure put a healthy spin on dying eggs this year - and These two kiddos were VERY CONTENT with the cool new process! It was all about the details! Sure it made a mess, but it wasn't to hard to wipe up!

We headed outside for a break, while the cookies cooled and the skies were just right to fly a kite. Our weather has still been quite crisp, but the sunny was no stranger this weekend. We hand cloudless skies...

Brandan has been dying to get his kite up, and was willing to weather the rain a few days previous to this just because the wind seemed to be blowing enough. But in the end, he was glad to have waited and loved the thrill of holding onto that string!
My ingenious husband got these cool ground level, looking up shots that I thought were pretty cool!

Back in the kitchen, Aly and I made up some batches of cream cheese icing in some cool neon/pastel colors for decorating. Brandan, who was outside playing football with Chato got word of it and ditched the ball to get his hands in the bowl, too. (My little chefs!!)

Our last endeavor was carrot cake. Brandan took the helm of the mixing bowl, while Aly crushed the pecans.

By the time Sunday rolled around, the eggs had been hidden by Mama and Papa. Brandan snagged the golden..errrr...silver egg with a monetary prize inside!

Now it wasn't good enough to hide the eggs just once, so Chato and I hid them once more in places that were just above or below eye level, giving the kids a bit more of a challenge.

This one was my favorite...

I truly believe that they both spotted it at the same time, and when they figured out that it was just out of reach...they set their minds on the fact that they would find a way to get it! Brandan finally chipped away at the bark just below it and made it tumble to the ground.
Easter best is the way to be dressed...

..on this beautiful Spring holiday!!
