pasando dias maravillos...

Thursday morning led us down to the church where parades of indigenous ceremonial dancers pounded their feet to the beat of a grand festival day. June 24th celebrate San Juan Bautista, the name of Ocampo's main church. We snacked on Mango Gatorade and Sabritas.
We took a truck ride down to the end of town to see a BULL FIGHT!
The stadium was packed with people.
-------------------------------
Later, it was the plaza that was packed, enjoying carnival rides and games, food, and fireworks...
Well, they were a bit loud, but the colors were beautiful!Forget Taste of Chicago -- this was a TRUE crowd!
---------------------------------
On Friday, we headed to see "El Cubilete" or El Cristo Rey. Way up at the top of a mountain, just minutes from Silao, Mexico we wound ourselves up an 8 mile cobblestone road to greet this great statue.

Brandan had his own imitation...
---------------------------
Our tour guide, Chato's dad, did a great job of taking some family shots for us!
We have met quite a few roadside friends on these treacherous roads. We left for San Felipe, to settle for a great (and CHEAP) meal.
The kids stopped to buy some revistas and Aly got her hands on some World Cup glasses...
At night, we joined family for a few twirls...
...and some more games.
Finally, yesterday we went looking for some sun and relaxation. Gogorron has been a constant hit for us when we come to Mexico. It has been a bit since we had visited and so much has improved and grown. There are more slides and activities...and the waters were great treats to us.
After dinner, we took the kids horseback riding.
Yes, all of the kids got to ride...
...and again, plenty of new friends to chat with...
Did I tell you, we rented a car when we arrived. We asked for a mid-sized vehicle...but since we don't drive stick, this is what we ended up with...
And again we headed out to the festivities on the plaza. These little cousins have a ball together.
We wrapped up the evening with sweet churros...
...and went to sleep with hopes of sweet dreams of BRIGHT Guanajuato colors for the day to come.
------------------------------
We arrived in Guanajuato this morning, and took up residence at our favorite hotel: Posada Santa Fe - right in the center of the Jardin de la Union. We walk from here to there and take a taxi if need be, because the tunnels are so daunting to drive in! Chato and Aly are taking a nap while Brandan and I enjoy the balcony's fresh air here at the hotel. We are waiting for the hot afternoon sun to calm and head out to see what NIGHTTIME lights and an evening meal we can find.

I am seeing some beautiful pieces that I JUST might have to have shipped home, too. Mom...I've got you in mind!

WOW! What a great trip! Looks like there is so much to do, and it looks like one of the people in the pictures must be Chato's aunt, because she is the spitting image of Chato's mama!?!

Keep having fun and sending back such exciting pics!

I am so loving these pictures and your commentary! I cannot wait to see your little album when it's done, I bet it will be awesome! Once you get back, check out the Stories of Summer post by Molly Irwin on Ali's blog. There are some sweet notecards that would be cute for your album. To record all the wonderful sensory memories...you'll see what I mean when you see them;)
