"sew cool" project 1 PLUS SOME

My first project over at Home Ec was to create cutesy, decorative napkins. Now, granted...I adore vintage, love collectibles from the 20th century, and there's something about the style that reminds me of something my grandmother would have, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the ric-rak on these things.
My first attempt was a bit trying, because I felt that I was sewing blind. I couldn't see my ric-rak underneath the fabric. I turned it inside out and wasn't too pleased with my initial results. I started again. My second attempt was much better because I learned to "feel" my way along as I sewed.
My ric-rak was tricky, especially keeping it even along the edge. I'm glad I used small fabric pieces (they are not matched very well :( ) but I am hoping to seek out some sweet holiday fabric to make some better ones now that I know how.
-----------------------------------
I got through a couple of layouts with my August Studio Calico kit, over the course of the past few nights. (Thanks to summer free swim nights when the kids are at the pool with Chato!)
I've been working my way through TONS of pictures from 2009. Some of these little faces have grown by leaps and bounds, I can't even imagine what they will look like in another year!!
I've got another sewing project on the docket today (some where in the afternoon when the kids are out...! :p ) and an idea for another LAYOUT too. But I've got to fit some school planning time in here too... :( anybody got any unused time lying around?

I love your napkins...after the first ric-rac napkin, I ditched it on the second and just did a 2 sided one. I am lazy and that was a pain, lol! But it does look pretty, I am thinking I need to get the wider width like you said to do soe more.
