true tradition

For as long as we have been in this home (going on 11 years this coming summer), every Friday after Thanksgiving (better known as Black Friday) we choose to sleep in (well, as long as our early bird Brandan lets us) and then after breakfast, we hit the attic and pull out everything CHRISTMAS!!
The kids were the first ones at it on this morning. I won't tell you that Brandan has figured out how to open the attic panel WITHOUT using as chair. (It requires no socks and footprints on my hallway walls!) This is the first time we let the kids go through the attic and find everything. Thank goodness, Aly found some extra sets of lights I had purchased a couple years ago. It was chilly up there, too. I'm glad I didn't have to get my gloves out to do this job! :)
So....How do YOU store your Christmas stuff? We have ten Rubbermaid containers of varying sizes. That's a bit much, I think...but the kids love it. I just hate the VOID it leaves when we take it down after the holidays -- everything seems so bleh!
Little by little, it is all unpacked. I really like that the kids are SO involved. Aly took care of knickknacks this year and she did a really good job finding homes for them all while I fought with working and non-working Christmas lights.
Around about lunchtime (and this is the best part), there is no need to stop the progress. We pull out the sea of leftovers from the holiday feast the day before...
What's left of the food? At this point, not much...a bit of corn, mac-n-cheese, cranberries, some arroz & mole, and a few slices of turkey and some stuffing. There are a couple of Key Lime pie squares left and a serving or two of Tres Leches cake for dessert. All gone are the deviled eggs and the mashed potatoes. Those were SO GOOD. I think I might have to make some more of those REAL soon.

By evening, everything was lit up and glowing.
I love this time of year, if for nothing else -- the glowing lights EVERYWHERE. If I can find somewhere to plug them - UP THEY GO!
And this year, we feel extra safe...
Our new guardian, near the front door, is very festive looking, too!

Today, we are being lazy.
The kids are testing out some new Wii games (Thank you, RedBOX!) to see what they want to add to their letters to Santa (I refuse to let them NOT believe and will do it until they leave this house!) Chato and I plan on catching up on some new releases that we never get to the theater to see. Just need a blanket and a warm drink and I am SET! Hmmm...where do I place an order for another weekend JUST LIKE THIS? Santa?! Put that on my list!

Ugh, so wanting to get caught up so I can decorate! We don't have many knick knacks so we have about 3-4 storage containers with Christmas (one has half halloween). I am hoping to get to Cracker Barrel soon and pick up some goodies to decorate with. They had some super cute stuff!

I love that the kids helped and got so into it-fun!
