I wouldn't say so.
Typically, the second day back to school after a looooong winter break is pretty hideous. The teacher is tired (that would be me!) The students are restless (because they have to get back into the routine.) Brandan and Aly fuss about homework (more than normal because they miss all the free time they had to play.) BUT -- today wasn't one of those typical days. My students were on their game. They've been working pretty hard and I am proud at how well they respect our routine and roll with it when changes come up. I am all the better for it, too. B + A haven't fussed one bit. Homework is done early, being mindful that they will have more time to spend on other things is they finish early. We also have been working well with small breaks and taking turns. If Aly is working on assignments, Brandan take ten minutes to grab a snack. If Brandan is focused on completing a project, then Aly takes five to play one of her infamous computer games...(right now it is Cyber Chase on pbskids.com
Now, all of this doesn't change the fact that our lens is remotely focused on another point in time in the near future. But this is a long one...Spring break will not bounce its way into our lives until late April!! So, four months (16 weeks!!) and we will enjoy the benefits of a week long break. Suggestions? It surely should be nice and warm by then!!
Oh well, enough procrastination...gotta stack of stuff to grade and peruse.
