heroes, histories, and haunts

With the Chicago Public Library celebrating the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth, Brandan was on board to read as many books as it took to get a Lincoln T-shirt. (I'm surprised he didn't offer bribes to his bookworm sister, Aly, to read FOR him, but he was determined to earn that tee!) Aside from the book logs and lists, there were a variety of programs and readings being offered to the historical nuts and lovers out and about in our great city. Yesterday, we attended a gathering with Mrs. Mary Todd Lincoln, but Brandan's admiration came to a head today. He met President Abraham Lincoln at the library. Okay, it was Fritz Klein impersonating the late, great president, but he did an amazing job of convincing us that he was none other than the 16th President of the United States.
After many a beautiful and insightful story of childhood and presidency, many of those in attendance asked very interesting questions, to which followed many enlightening answers in story form - true to character whether it was one of silliness or sadness. Brandan couldn't get enough. He waited well after the program had ended to question Mr. Lincoln some more...

Thank you Mr. President.
We enjoyed your company today.
