A gold medal day

Our day began bright and early. We headed out to the 4th Annual TaeKwonDo Competition out at the College of DuPage. Brandan, alongside teammates Julian, Cajun, and Hannah signed on for various combinations of forms, breaking, and sparring. Program note: Aly made the decision not to compete this time around. Brandan and Cajun planned out their strategies as things got under way.
Breaking was Brandan's first event. This sport is so hard to freeze in action under crazy gym florescent lights, but the story goes that Brandan had five boards to break in a row, and he took out all five to receive a 1st place medal!
Our friend, Hannah, took out all of her boards to also receive 1st place in her section.
Julian followed suit and took home a 2nd place medal for board breaking. It is an awesome feeling to show off medal!
Now, with all of this action going on - you would think that it would be difficult to follow all the results - there were seven different arenas carrying out events simotaneously. Well, everyone was interested with the exception of Aly. She passed the time lying on the bleachers with her nose shoved into her comic books...lazy girl!
Leave it to the dads to huddle on the sidelines and talk the talk.

Aly finally found her energy once her girlie girl, Sienna arrived on the scene. They ended up running themselves crazy all over chasing their brothers' progress and garnishing snacks for the downtime.
The wait got pretty long. Sparring is one big event - and time consuming, too. I am going to throw a far fetched guess out there and say that Brandan was TIRED of waiting: Do you see him here? Well, his feet are there if not anything else...
His first bout was a winner - but there was no turn around time. He immediately went into a second bout to determine the second and first place competitors. With second to flip his protective gear and catch a swig of water, he was off and at it...

Gotta love those jumping power kicks...
There are two ONE minute rounds, and this boy found out what perseverance is and exactly what "winded" feels like!
It was a great fight, but in the end - our little guy got lifted off the floor!

Can you say EXHAUSTED?
It was a VERY Win-Win day for everyone!!
Way to go TEAM!

How cool for Brandon! These are some really fantastic pictures! I am very tempted to buy a really nice camera here, but I don't know if my savings will allow it. But I keep thinking of all the awesome scrapping pictures I can take....
