Saturday marked Brandan's fifth 5k this season.
But this race set ambition to an all new high. Raising money for lung cancer research, Montrose Harbor hosted the 5k and 10k 2011 Lung Run, Brandan knew he could honor his grandmother's memory though she lost her fight with this disease in 2009. Aly, too, played a huge part, even though she did not run. The opportunity to design a kite in honor of Ma suited her love of creativity to a tee. We had a beautiful day for it all. Bright, sunny skies, with highs somewhere in the 60s made it perfect weather to be out along the lake.
We shared the event with Johonna, a colleague of mine, who knows the lung cancer battle all too well, having recently lost her dad.My little Prefontaine is always at the head of the pack. The Montrose Harbor was a great course, alongside the beach, only a mile or so away from my school.

Baby boy ran alongside 485 other runners and his results were phenomenal:
73 BRANDON PRADO 542 M 12 26:34 8:33
So proud.
I know I can't run a 8:33 mile!

In the end, we got a swift wind and Ma's kite flew well into that blue sky. Aly and Brandan made sure to stock up on plenty of bananas, bagels, and other race fare enough to tuck under their arms and carry home just like Ma would have liked too! ;)
I dug through old boxes that Mom had stored since I was very little. I found an old make believe watch that came in a pair (one for me and one for my dolly) from Ben Franklin's back in the day. The poor elastic band now stretched out beyond repair tells a story of a day when I thought I knew how to stop time.
I found the remaining pieces of a tiny china tea set my babysitter's dear mother gave me...
...and OMG my favorite cassettes from the 80s! Thank goodness I had my dad's tape player nearby today so I could hear my old Jets album!! Oh my I loved THIS SONG!
My favorite, though, was my Toni Basil tape, given to me by my cousin Mikey when I was only six or seven years old. I listened to it so much back then that I think I wore it out. Today, it plays a bit rough, but I'll never get rid of it!
My cousin Claudia always had a pad of restaurant checks that she picked up from a stationary store in the old neighborhood. I would drive everyone MAD for hours asking them what they wanted to eat and taking imaginary orders!

......I would doodle myself silly for hours on end. I am THRILLED that I found my old set! It ALMOST has all of the original pieces too! Hmmmm? Maybe....coming to a layout near you!

The house is rounding it's final finishing touches with the backsplash in place along the kitchen wall. We are only awaiting the balcony railing and the kitchen island to be installed and call this remodeling process a done deal!!It's certainly been a week.

That is so cool of Brandan to run in that race. He is becoming quite the runner!!! I love the idea of the kite and Aly decorated hers so beautifully!
Look at those treasures...the Tiffany and Debbie Gibson tapes made me smile;) How cool is it that you found your spirograph! I so had one of those!
