I was pretty excited when Brandan signed on for THIS race. I was even more excited when we found out the the weather would be perfect for it. I got even more excited when I got to paint Brandan's face and it turned out like this...
I've secretly loved el Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead) holiday for a long time. Getting B to dress up for it was awesome!!-------------
So, we headed out before sunrise to Pilsen (parking there is no joke - so you better come early). The place was JUMPING with sights and sounds.
The boys were at the head of the start line (gotta remember to watch Chicago Univision tonight to catch the new footage!) and there were some brave "souls" out there who ran without shirts in the upper 30, lower 40 degree temps!

...the girls hung out on the side lines with their champurrado...
...and donned the skull masks that Aly made from an old ditto I use at school...
Do you know that they got caught wearing them by a photog from HOY newspaper? She gave me her card and said to look for them in the paper tomorrow!!! Bianca, Leslie, and Aly were so excited!!**UPDATE** Here is the online LINK from the news story in the paper!! All of out friends made it across the finish line in good time. Brandan placed 25th in his age group (the top third!) and put another 5k notch on his belt.
It was crazy crowded, but the food was YUMMMMMY....

Beautiful way to start the morning...
...although I am so sleepy from being up at 5am, I think I might just have to fit in a nap today!

I bet there were lots of familiar faces there! Wish I had known about it. I bet the kids would have had fun! Those shirtless peeps are crazy!
